Case Study: Concrete Light Fitting Repair

The following case study was a smaller part of larger project where another company had patched the surface problem of the light fitting without assessing the underlying concrete cancer.

Suncoast Concrete Repair was commissioned to repair the concrete cancer correctly.

The light fitting and surrounding concrete had been ‘patched’ previously. Tell-tale signs of ‘spalling’ can be seen where the reinforcement has corroded to such an extent it is forcing concrete to break away from the main slab. This severely reduces structural integrity and allows further moisture to penetrate increasing the corrosion rate exponentially.

Opening up the light fitting shows a horror story where the damage is a lot more pronounced. The previous repairer clearly hadn’t removed the light fitting before starting to patch the issue.

The damaged concrete is removed and affected reinforcement is completely replaced and treated.

The concrete is then finished ready for painting.

The concrete is then finished properly with coastal-grade surfaces to match the previous paintwork and the light fitting secured back into position.
